The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) is an independent, non-profit certifying body whose purpose is to provide a valid and reliable program for the evaluation of individuals wishing to enter, continue, and/or advance in the NP profession through the certification process. It was established in the early 1990s by Dr. Jan Towers and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. In 1999, AANPCB became separately incorporated as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board, Inc. and the credential NP-C, which stands for Nurse Practitioner-Certified, was registered and trademarked. AANPCB is overseen by a Board of Commissioners (BOC) composed of experienced nurse practitioners representative of the certificants and at least one public member. The BOC offers input and guidance into organizational decisions and governs all major decisions affecting the AANPCB certification programs and processes. Certification Examinations AANPCB national certification examinations are competency-based examinations for nurse practitioners to reflect their knowledge and expertise in the role and population area of education. AANPCB currently offers Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP, Family NP, and Psychiatric Mental Health NP examinations, which are entry-level certifications, and the Emergency NP examination, which is a specialty certification for certified FNPs with expertise in emergency care. POSITION SUMMARY:
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) provides excellence in testing and national certification for nurse practitioners. The Staff Accountant role is to assist in overseeing the financial and accounting processes, procedures and reporting necessary to ensure cost‐effective, efficient, day‐to‐day operations required to support the organization and its mission. The Staff Accountant will coordinate with the accounting department team in recording and tracking the financial activities of the organization. Tasks include recording daily transactions, maintaining accounts receivable, accounts payable, and all aspects of accounting to ensure the timely execution of closing and reporting processes. AANPCB is located in Austin, TX.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in maintaining payables, receivables, collection activities, and month‐end balance sheet account reconciliations in conjunction with the accounting department team.
- Assist in evaluating and improving internal controls and to streamline processes and procedures around organization-wide CMS and accounting software.
- Assist in developing financial policies and procedures and ensure their continued adherence.
- Assist in coordinating the annual financial statement audit with external auditors.
- Must be knowledgeable of the certification program fee structure and application process to answer customer inquiries and promote certification.
- Ability to maintain effective internal and external departmental communications and public relations.
- Works with employees and management to achieve individual and organizational goals through promotion of positive teamwork.
- Assists with monitoring website information and other publicly available materials for currency.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and personality conducive to working as a team member and a representative working with the public.
- Ability to speak and write in a clear, thorough, timely, and professional manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques is required. Experience with writing business correspondence and preparing written materials that reflect a polished and professional image.
- Ability to perform under deadlines and changing schedules. Flexible and willing to adjust schedule to meet the organizational demands, especially during peak times.
- Displays professionalism; demonstrated self‐starter; is reliable, responsible, and dependable; shows loyalty and concern for the integrity and professional image of the organization.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services, such as customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Proficient in the use of a variety of software including, QBO, current Microsoft Office products, on‐line database systems, computer networks, and network security measures.
- Enjoys accounting research and complex problem solving.
- Thorough understanding of financial concepts, principles, and practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience working in either a non‐profit industry or public accounting.
- Experience working with a non‐profit organization, membership organization, nursing association, state board of nursing, educational program, continuing education provider, or accreditor preferred.
- Bilingual a plus but not required.
- Intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) preferred.
