About the Job:
As a Staff Accountant specializing in Capital Expenditures (CapEx), you will be crucial in the financial oversight of our infrastructure and construction investments. You’ll collaborate with project managers, facilities, and finance leadership to develop cost estimates, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop preliminary and detailed project cost estimates.
- Review vendor quotes and coordinate with procurement.
- Maintain historical cost data.
- Track and reconcile project spending against budgets.
- Review project invoices and ensure correct account coding.
- Maintain project accounting documentation.
- Partner with project and maintenance teams to monitor timelines and spending.
- Prepare monthly capital spending reports and variance analysis.
- Assist with fixed asset additions and disposals.
- Ensure GAAP and internal policy compliance for capital assets.
- Reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts.
- Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting of capital expenditures.
- Collaborate with auditors for capital project-related items.
- Analyze estimate-to-actual variances for improvement.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience, including 1+ year in construction estimating or cost analysis in a project-based environment.
- Prior experience in capital project accounting, construction budgeting, or fixed assets preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
- Effective communication skills across all levels.
- Familiarity with construction drawings and cost modeling (a plus).
- Solid understanding of fixed asset accounting and construction costs.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and work independently.
Physical Demands: Requires computer use and may involve prolonged sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required.
Work Environment: Requires daily office presence for collaboration and potential travel to production sites using a personal vehicle. Hours and travel may vary.
