About the Role
Illinois Action for Children is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support our Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role is responsible for month-end close, bank reconciliations, budget reporting, fixed asset management, and assisting with audits and budget preparation. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting organizational accountability.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts

Perform month-end close and journal entries (e.g., revenue allocations)

Maintain the fixed asset system and record depreciation

Generate and distribute budget comparison reports to managers

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and quarterly Board reports

Support internal departments with financial data and invoice processing

Prepare schedules for annual audits and maintain accurate accounting records

Monitor fiscal compliance through site visits and program meetings
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field

3–5 years of general accounting experience

Proficiency in Excel and Word

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to manage multiple tasks
