About the Role

WellSky is looking for a highly skilled Staff Database Administrator to lead enterprise-level database initiatives. This role is critical to keeping our systems secure, high-performing, and always available. You will manage installation, configuration, optimization, monitoring, and disaster recovery for complex multi-tenant databases. As a senior DBA, you’ll mentor database engineering teams, integrate AI-powered solutions into daily workflows, and ensure scalable, compliant, and reliable data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and optimize enterprise databases with a focus on performance, security, and availability.

  • Lead and mentor database engineering teams, review code, and ensure operational readiness.

  • Configure and support high-availability, reliability, and disaster recovery systems.

  • Research and evaluate emerging database technologies for enterprise adoption.

  • Perform advanced disaster recovery planning and execution.

  • Manage capacity planning, data modeling, and database documentation.

  • Leverage AI tools to automate workflows and enhance database management.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, and NIST cybersecurity frameworks.

  • Collaborate in DevOps/SRE-driven environments for seamless integration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • 12–15 years of professional experience in database administration.

  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture and internals.

  • Proven expertise in multi-tenant, high-volume, and high-availability database systems.

  • Strong background in Linux administration for databases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years managing PostgreSQL databases in cloud/datacenter environments.

  • Experience with AWS RDS, GCP CloudSQL, Azure databases, and cloud-native platforms.

  • Hands-on experience with NoSQL technologies: MongoDB, Redis, ElasticSearch, DynamoDB.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).

  • Skilled in automation frameworks like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or SaltStack.

  • Experience with PgBouncer connection pooling.

  • Prior experience in healthcare or regulated software environments with security frameworks.
