Job Summary

The Operating Room RN is responsible to the Department Director/Manager/Administrator at Mount Vernon Surgery Center and provides clinically competent nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

The nurse will deliver perioperative, pain, and gastroenterology care for patients undergoing procedures at Skagit Regional Health (SRH) hospitals and ambulatory surgery locations. This position requires effective communication, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining professional nursing standards.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with established SRH policies, procedures, and regulatory standards

  • Perform ongoing assessment, documentation, and evaluation of patient status and care plans

  • Safely administer medications and monitor patient response

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes

  • Demonstrate effective communication and problem-solving skills in patient and staff interactions

  • Participate in orientation/training of new staff and continuous quality improvement initiatives

  • Assist in cross-training, shift rotation (Skagit Valley Hospital and Mount Vernon Surgery Center), and scheduled standby/call-back duties

  • Maintain compliance with infection control, patient safety, and organizational policies

Education

  • RN license required; BSN preferred

  • Knowledge of fundamentals of nursing practice

Experience/Training

  • Minimum two years recent operating room nursing experience strongly preferred

  • Experience in SRH Nurse Residency Program with Perioperative focus recognized

  • Minimum two years Ambulatory Surgery Center experience strongly preferred

  • Procedural nursing experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Washington State RN License required

  • AHA BLS Certification required

  • AHA ACLS & PALS required within 6 months of hire

  • CNOR certification preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong clinical skills and ability to respond to emergency situations promptly and professionally

  • Effective patient-centered communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong documentation and EHR competency

  • Ability to lift/move patients and equipment (>50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base wage: $42.06 – $76.69 per hour

  • $15,000 sign-on bonus
