Job Summary

The Staff Registered Nurse – Endoscopy is responsible for providing clinically competent nursing care by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The RN interacts effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members while adhering to professional nursing standards and hospital policies to ensure safe and high-quality care.

Essential Functions

Patient Care & Satisfaction

  • Deliver patient-centered care with empathy and respect for privacy and confidentiality.

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on individual needs.

  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and perform direct/indirect patient care in accordance with hospital policies.

  • Communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare team members regarding patient status and care needs.

  • Document assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary staff to ensure patient well-being.

  • Provide orientation and training support for new team members.

  • Offer assistance to colleagues and adapt to staffing variations.

Safety & Problem Solving

  • Follow safety protocols, infection control policies, and emergency procedures.

  • Identify and report unusual patient conditions, incidents, or equipment issues.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Productivity & Professional Development

  • Demonstrate flexibility in response to changing priorities and patient needs.

  • Participate in continuing education and required annual skill updates.

  • Attend staff meetings and maintain required certifications.Education & Experience

  • Education: RN required; strong knowledge of fundamental nursing and endoscopy practices.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years recent endoscopy nursing experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Washington State RN License (required).

  • American Heart Association ACLS (required).

  • Gastroenterology certification (preferred).

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in administering treatments and procedures per physician orders.

  • Skilled in patient assessment, clinical judgment, and emergency response.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to provide compassionate care addressing both physiological and psychological needs.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Active role requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting.

  • Ability to lift/move patients and objects over 50 lbs.

  • Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception.

  • Work environment follows Skagit Valley Hospital safety and infection control protocols.
