Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sterile Services Technician to join our expert decontamination team at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. As a Sterile Services Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective sterilization of surgical instruments used across our operating theatres and clinical departments. This is a full-time, fixed-hours position with comprehensive in-house training provided — ideal for individuals passionate about supporting frontline healthcare services.

 Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Sterile Services Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Receiving, disassembling, cleaning, checking, reassembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments

  • Packing sterile medical devices for clinical use in accordance with NHS guidelines

  • Operating specialist machinery and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Accurately managing the movement of sterilized instruments using electronic tracking systems

  • Complying with ISO 13485 Medical Device standards and medical device regulations

  • Contributing to the safety of patients by ensuring reliable decontamination processes

  • Supporting Supervisors in providing high-quality, consistent medical device decontamination services

 Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday

  • 06:00 to 14:00 (fixed shift pattern)

 Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions

  • Willingness to undertake full training

  • Ability to work within a team in a busy, high-pressure environment

  • Basic understanding of health and safety protocols

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a decontamination or sterile services environment

  • Familiarity with electronic tracking systems and medical device regulations
