About the Role
Do you have a strong passion for student welfare and supporting young people through personal challenges?
The University of Reading is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Student Welfare Advisor to join our well-established Student Welfare Team. In this rewarding role, you’ll support students aged 16+ who are facing personal, emotional, or mental health-related difficulties that could affect their studies and well-being.
As a Student Welfare Advisor, you’ll provide direct support, guidance, and signposting, while working closely with academic tutors, support centre staff, and specialist services to ensure students receive coordinated and effective care.

Key Responsibilities

Offer one-to-one welfare support to students facing personal difficulties, including mental health concerns, housing or financial issues, and relationship problems.

Provide professional advice and guidance while maintaining appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.

Coordinate support across departments, including academic staff, counselling services, and external agencies.

Promote student welfare services and contribute to a positive university culture of inclusivity and care.

Maintain accurate case records and adhere to safeguarding and data protection protocols.
Essential Criteria

Experience providing welfare, pastoral, or mental health support to individuals aged 16+ in an educational, health, or social care setting.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse individuals.

Strong understanding of the challenges facing university students and the ability to assess risk effectively.

Self-motivated, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Willingness to undergo and pass an Enhanced DBS check.

Understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and safeguarding responsibilities.
