Systems Development Engineer – Identity, Cryptography and Identity Management

Position Summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Systems Development Engineer to join the Cryptography & Identity team within AWS Utility Computing. In this role, you’ll design, build, and operate massively scalable distributed security systems—powering identity management, federation, and web services security for customers handling some of the most sensitive workloads in the cloud.

You will work in a DevOps-oriented environment, collaborating directly with both developers and customers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable services. This is a high-impact role where you’ll solve technical challenges across the AWS stack and partner with some of the smartest engineers in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to execute projects and resolve technical issues

  • Operate AWS Cryptography & Identity systems at global scale

  • Apply DevOps principles to improve system performance, security, and reliability

  • Dive deep into service operations to identify and address complex challenges

  • Design and implement distributed systems with a focus on security, performance, and scalability

  • Support specialized security solutions for AWS customers

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional (non-internship) software development experience

  • 1+ year designing or architecting scalable, reliable systems

  • Bachelor’s degree or CSSLP certification

  • Strong understanding of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, OS)

  • Active US Government Top Secret (or above) clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum development environments

  • Programming experience in C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, Ruby, or PowerShell

  • 7+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, OS, and systems engineering
