Position Summary

The Elementary Teacher (Kindergarten) will provide quality instruction aligned with Minnesota State Standards and national benchmarks. This role involves designing rigorous, inquiry-based learning experiences that support academic achievement and foster habits of scholarship. Teachers may collaborate with campus STEM teams to deliver integrated instruction across disciplines.

Essential Functions

  • Implement Minnesota State Standards and District Graduation Requirements.

  • Teach the required curriculum using strategies that encourage problem-solving and critical thinking.

  • Collaborate with peers to plan and apply best practices tailored to students’ diverse needs.

  • Assess students’ developmental, cognitive, and social needs, providing appropriate instruction.

  • Create inclusive, engaging, and respectful classroom environments.

  • Communicate regularly with families and use community resources to support student learning.

  • Support the goals of Minneapolis Public Schools’ District Improvement Agenda and site-specific goals.

  • Continuously assess and improve instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process (PDP).

  • Participate in staff, team, and individual professional development.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

  • Successful student teaching or professional teaching experience in an urban, multicultural setting.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through coursework, research, or peer collaboration.

  • Master’s or PhD preferred.

License & Certification Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license (or proof of pending approved licensure).

Additional Information

  • Finalists may interview with a committee.

  • Appointment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check.
