Job Title: Technical Editor – Scientific Peer Review

Type: Casual Workforce, Part-time, On-Call (PTOC)

Location: Remote (anywhere in the U.S.)

Scheduled Hours: Minimum 16 hours/week, up to 40 hours/week during high-volume periods

Annual Commitment: At least 400 hours/year

Travel: Less than 10%

Salary Range: $14,110 – $19,090 (based on experience and location)
Role Overview
GDIT is seeking an experienced Technical Editor to perform advanced copyediting and quality control on complex scientific documents generated through the peer review of Department of Defense grant applications. This role ensures editorial accuracy, maintains workflow standards, and provides constructive feedback to elevate team performance.
Key Responsibilities

Perform high-level copyediting and quality control using AMA style with program-specific exceptions.

Revise and update editorial toolkits, SOPs, and style guides to reflect evolving workflows.

Provide constructive editorial feedback to peers across all editing phases.

Serve as a “super user” editor to resolve priority issues and ensure final quality before production.

Support workflow improvements, automation tools, and editor training.

Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams to uphold editorial quality.
Required Qualifications

PhD (or equivalent advanced research degree) in life sciences, biomedical science, environmental science, or related discipline.

Minimum 10 years of scientific editing experience, including peer review grant applications.

Familiarity with Department of Defense research funding mechanisms.

Mastery of AMA Manual of Style and ability to apply program-specific exceptions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience as both lead and collaborative editor in peer review environments.

Skilled in workflow improvements and editorial automation tools.

Experience mentoring and supporting skill development across an editorial team.
