What You’ll Do – Technical Officer – 30854 Responsibilities

Technical Officer – 30854 Core Responsibilities

  • Respond to planning consultations from local authorities.

  • Provide technical advice on land contamination and environmental permitting.

  • Support internal regulatory teams on compliance with water, waste, and installation activities.

  • Manage Yorkshire’s groundwater level and quality monitoring networks.

  • Analyse hydrogeological data and communicate findings to stakeholders.

  • Guide licensing and permitting decisions with sound scientific evidence.

Technical Officer – 30854 Incident Response and Communication

  • Participate in environmental incident response duties (training provided).

  • Communicate complex technical data clearly to internal teams and external audiences.

  • Engage in occasional site visits, in-person and virtual meetings across Yorkshire.

Skills and Experience We’re Looking For

  • Degree in hydrogeology, geology, environmental science or related field—or relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of contaminated land, groundwater quality, and hydrogeology.

  • Strong data interpretation, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working in teams, with a proactive and organised approach.

  • Clear understanding of key environmental legislation (e.g. Water Framework Directive, Environmental Permitting Regulations).

  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong IT/data handling abilities.

  • Full UK driving licence (beneficial, not essential).
