About the Role

Are you an experienced Street Lighting Electrician ready to step up into a leadership role? NY Highways is offering a fantastic opportunity to join our team as a Trainee Street Lighting Supervisor—a role designed to support your growth into a full supervisory position while making a real impact across North Yorkshire.

As a Trainee Street Lighting Supervisor, you will assist in managing operational teams, overseeing electrical engineering projects, and coordinating the day-to-day delivery of both planned and emergency street lighting works. You’ll support activities such as infrastructure installation, cyclical maintenance, and third-party contracts—helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Street Lighting Supervisor in managing the depot and field operatives.

  • Help coordinate electrical engineering tasks, including major works, repairs, and assessments.

  • Assist with team development, including onboarding, training, and performance monitoring.

  • Maintain HEA/HERS portfolios and ensure operatives remain compliant with legislation.

  • Keep accurate records of work activities, monitor safety measures, and help set financial budgets.

  • Champion best practices in health, safety, and quality management across all workstreams.

What We’re Looking For

  • City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification

  • Proven experience in street lighting/electrical infrastructure on highways

  • Understanding of relevant legislation, guidance, and inspection protocols

  • Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across North Yorkshire

  • Strong teamworking, communication, and mentoring skills
