Truck Driver – Hiker/Vehicle Transporter/CDL

Position Summary:
Penske Truck Leasing in Tacoma is seeking motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves delivering and returning vehicles to Penske locations and customers. Primarily, the position requires operating box trucks up to 26 feet, and for CDL Class A holders, it also includes driving tractors and trailers. Additionally, this role may assist the service department with delivering parts and equipment.

This is a casual, on-call, part-time driving opportunity, ideal for CDL Class B or Class A drivers seeking supplemental income. Hours vary from 0 to 25 per week depending on business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.

• Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are functioning properly; report any issues to the location manager.

• Obtain signatures or receipts for delivered goods and collect payments when required.

• Report any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.

• Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years driving experience.

• Clean DMV record for at least 2 years.

• CDL Class B license required; Class A preferred.

• Ability to read and follow written instructions.

• Strong customer service skills, ability to work independently, good organizational skills, and a positive attitude.

• Reliable attendance is essential.

• Must comply with DOT regulations, including maintaining a current driver qualification file with annual MVR checks, DOT physicals, and safety performance history from prior employers. CDL drivers will undergo DOT drug screening within 30 days of hire and FMCSA Clearinghouse review.

• Willingness to travel, adhere to assigned schedule, work at the designated location, complete employment application, and pass background and drug screenings.

This position is DOT-regulated and safety-sensitive, requiring consistent alertness and responsibility for personal and others’ safety.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have good vision and hearing, including close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.

• Job duties require frequent movement, standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms.

• Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg).

• Must be legally qualified to operate a motor vehicle and safely enter and exit the vehicle and cargo area.

Compensation:

• Class A Drivers: $23.00/hour

• Class B Drivers: $21.00/hour

• Shift differentials apply when relevant.
