Unified Communications Engineer (re-ad 25-00982)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of training/experience

  • 8+ years experience in network infrastructure, information security, web development, and/or system administration

  • 3+ years planning, configuring, and maintaining enterprise voice/telephony infrastructure, with recent hands-on experience in Microsoft Teams Phone

  • Experience designing and implementing unified communications solutions in hybrid or cloud environments

  • Expertise troubleshooting complex UC environments (SBCs, PSTN connectivity, Teams integrations)

  • Experience with migration projects (legacy PBX to Teams Phone preferred)

  • Additional collaboration tools (Zoom, Cisco, Skype for Business) a plus

  • Deep understanding of Teams Phone architecture (Direct Routing, Operator Connect, Calling Plans)

  • Proficiency in VoIP/SIP, IP telephony, and enterprise networking (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, QoS)

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration, Active Directory, identity/access management

  • Hands-on with Teams-certified devices, AV systems, and related hardware

  • PowerShell scripting & Microsoft Graph API experience for automation

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for UC environments

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record (per Virginia DMV standards)

  • Pre-employment drug test, FBI background check, and degree verification

  • Subject to CJIS Security Policy → must be a U.S. citizen or lawful resident of the U.S. for the past 10 consecutive years

Duties

  • Design and plan UCaaS solutions, including solution architecture and technical roadmaps

  • Build, configure, and deploy UCaaS platforms, ensuring robust and secure integrations

  • Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, monitoring, and optimization of UCaaS systems

  • Manage system lifecycle, upgrades, and performance for high availability

  • Engage with vendors for solution selection, contracts, and escalations

  • Liaise with stakeholders to meet service performance needs

  • Create/update technical documentation and train IT staff

  • Stay current with UCaaS trends and recommend improvements

  • Provide on-call emergency support outside normal hours as needed

  • Maintain personal mobile technology (employment condition)

  • Perform other related duties as required

Work Environment

  • Standard office hours, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • On-call emergency support required for assigned systems
