About the Job
Syracuse University is looking for an experienced Web Developer with full stack capabilities to join its digital development team within the Division of Marketing. This role plays a key part in developing and maintaining the university’s primary online presence, Syracuse.edu, and supporting shared web infrastructure used across various university sites. Working closely with a UI/UX Designer, the Web Developer will ensure design consistency, usability, and accessibility compliance.
Qualifications and Experience

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in web development or a related field.

A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in web design, development, and website management.
Core Skills and Expertise
-
Strong understanding and practical experience in user interface (UI) development.

Proficiency in semantic HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks.

Extensive experience working with open-source content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Drupal.

Solid knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x) and experience integrating them into development practices.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to present examples of past work and explain development processes.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Syracuse University’s main website and other major digital platforms.

Support and enhance centrally managed themes, templates, and applications used university-wide.

Collaborate with the UI/UX Designer to meet front-end usability, design, and accessibility goals.

Work with the Digital team and other campus stakeholders to identify needs and improve the web framework.

Stay current on industry best practices and emerging technologies.

Complete other tasks as assigned.
