Job Summary:
Iowa State University Library is seeking a skilled Web Developer III (Web Services & UX Technical Lead) to provide technical leadership and hands-on support for its web platforms. This role emphasizes front-end development, user experience, and accessibility across the Library’s Drupal website, vendor-hosted platforms, and locally developed applications. The Technical Lead will mentor a small web team, collaborate with stakeholders across the Library, and coordinate with vendors to ensure platforms are reliable, accessible, and user-centered.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor web development staff and student employees.

Drive accessibility compliance (Title II/WCAG 2.1 AA remediation focus in year one).

Oversee front-end code development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript) for responsive and standards-compliant interfaces.

Lead UX improvements through usability testing, analytics, and interface audits.

Establish and maintain shared frameworks, reusable components, and theming standards.

Collaborate with library staff, system owners, backend developers, campus IT, and vendors on updates, integrations, and accessibility improvements.

Document development practices and workflows to ensure continuity and maintainability.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in front-end development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript).

Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).

Experience creating or maintaining design systems, reusable components, or theming frameworks.

Technical leadership or mentoring experience.

Familiarity with version control and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub, Azure).

Experience in higher education, libraries, or organizations with multiple stakeholders.

Works independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission.

Solves moderately complex problems and exercises judgment regularly.

May supervise one to two staff and lead projects with undefined procedures.
