HUC provides urgent care and NHS 111 services across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, West Essex, and the Southwest, supporting over 4.5 million people. We are looking for committed individuals, even with no previous healthcare experience, to join our 111 Call Handling team.

Mandatory Paid Training:
You must be available for 6 weeks of full-time training, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, starting either Monday 1st September or Monday 29th September. Training is paid at full-time rates.

Main Responsibilities

  • First Point of Contact: Handle both urgent and non-urgent calls from the public, providing immediate support and triage.

  • Patient Assessment: Use NHS Pathways software to assess symptoms and direct patients to the appropriate level of care.

  • Active Listening: Apply probing and communication techniques to gather critical information and ensure patients receive safe, appropriate advice.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with clinical teams to escalate concerns when needed.

  • Call Handling: Deliver a calm, professional service under pressure.

About You (Person Specification)

Essential Criteria:

  • Lives within a 60-minute commute of the Bedford site

  • Previous customer service experience

  • Has the legal right to work in the UK

  • Can commit to 6 weeks of full-time training (9am–5pm, Monday–Friday)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous call handling experience

  • Familiarity with NHS services or telephone triage systems
