The Position

📌 Location: Franklin County, PA
📅 Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (30-minute lunch)
🚗 Requirement: Valid PA Class C Driver’s License

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a skilled Welder to join the Franklin County Maintenance Organization. In this role, you will repair, maintain, and fabricate metal parts, machinery, and structures that keep Pennsylvania’s transportation systems safe and reliable. From bridges and fences to engines and utility systems, your expertise will directly impact travelers across the state.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, brazing, and cutting on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

  • Repair and fabricate structural and mechanical parts for transportation equipment and infrastructure.

  • Apply independent judgment to select work methods and determine when to complete projects in-house or by contract.

  • Stay updated on modern welding techniques, tools, and materials.

  • Adhere to environmental, safety, and operational standards.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience operating welding equipment, materials, and related tools; OR

  • Completion of a 3-year Vo-Tech welding program + 18 months’ experience; OR

  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; OR

  • Possession of an AWS D1.1 welding certificate; OR

  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience operating MIG welders, spool guns, oxy-acetylene torches, and plasma cutters.

  • Ability to lift, maneuver, and safely use welding equipment.

  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
