Position Summary
The Welder 1 is responsible for performing quality welding on parts and fixtures used in the railcar manufacturing process. This role involves manual and semi-automatic welding, visual inspections, and repair work using welding machines, torches, and hand tools.
Key Responsibilities

Fit, align, and clamp steel workpieces in fixtures for welding.

Perform manual and semi-automatic arc welding on railcar parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies.

Follow job orders and Weld Procedure Sheets at the production workstation.

Visually inspect welds, repair defects, and perform minor corrections.

Maintain housekeeping and safety standards in the work area.

Consistently use and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Minimum Qualifications

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.

Ability to complete and pass weld qualifications after company-provided training.
Preferred Qualifications
-
High School diploma or equivalent.
-
Hands-on experience with manual or semi-automatic arc welders.

Experience operating forklifts or overhead cranes.

Previous experience in a production/manufacturing environment.

Willingness to complete forklift and crane certifications through company training.
Work Environment
-
Production setting with exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving machinery, and trip hazards.
-
PPE required: head, eye, hearing, and foot protection (including composite-toe safety shoes).

Possible exposure to welding, machining, forming, laser/plasma cutting, and other metalworking processes.

Additional PPE may be required depending on tasks.
Physical Requirements
-
Postures: Standing constantly; walking frequently; bending frequently; kneeling/squatting occasionally.

Lifting/Carrying: 5–25 lbs constantly; up to 50 lbs frequently.

Push/Pull: Up to 50 lbs frequently.

Ability to handle tools and materials throughout a full shift.
