Qualifications

  • Minimum B.S. Degree in instructional area required

  • Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in instructional area required

  • Must meet “highly qualified” criteria as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001

  • Must meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

  • Alternatives to above qualifications may be accepted at Board discretion

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment for assigned instructional specialty

  • Understanding of student academic growth and development for assigned grade level

  • Ability to plan and implement lessons aligned with state and system courses of study

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and peers

  • Skilled in oral and written communication

  • Proficiency in technology, including email, internet, Microsoft Office, CDs, DVDs, videos, etc.

  • Physical and emotional ability to perform required work and move about as needed

  • Knowledge of Board policies and procedures

Additional for Physical Education Teachers:

  • Adequate strength, dexterity, endurance, agility, and athletic skill to perform techniques

  • Ability to work outdoors and adapt clothing as needed

Essential Functions

  • Assess student abilities relative to educational goals and outcomes

  • Develop and implement instructional programs tailored to individual student needs

  • Plan and deliver diverse instructional strategies and activities

  • Manage classroom behavior and contribute to school-wide behavior management

  • Communicate instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents

  • Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation

  • Collaborate with school personnel on instructional goals, methods, and curriculum

  • Participate in professional growth, staff meetings, in-services, and development activities

  • Maintain attractive, safe, and conducive classroom environments

  • Ensure confidentiality of all student records and performance data

  • Maintain valid Alabama teaching certificate and renew as required

  • Adhere to work schedules, report absences timely, and assume other reasonable duties as assigned
